Yöghund | tha Dog Ice Cream!

YWith Summer being just around the corner (Hopefully), I like the idea of being able to peel open a nourishing, Organic Blueburry Yöghund for Ballou to happily lick.  Although we like to think of this treat as “tha Dog Ice Cream,” it’s actually yogurt and a whole lot better and healthier for the overall well-being of our canine friends.

A recognized Power Food, Yogurt is High in Calcium and Protein, containing active bacteria that can act as a probiotic; good for a dog’s Digestive and Immune system. What makes Yöghund so Dog-Gone-Good is the fact that this specially made, frozen treat for dogs adds billions of beneficial live cultures, 6 additional strains per cup, to the current yogurt base.

Note: Typically, dogs are unable to easily digest lactose (diary products), however, Yogurt is an exception, containing lactose fighting bacteria

DinoBone

A Bite into Dino Bones:

All though these 17″ long bones are kept away for tha larger breeds, we think these bones are a great present for any size dog.  Made from real USDA Approved beef these bones are baked with a natural, savory-smokey flavor and are meant to last, offering long lasting gnawing action… without splintering.  Made in the USA, these X-Large bones can assist with eliminating boredom and stress relief/frustration, by teaching positive chewing behavior.  Reducing plaque and tarter buildup on teeth, as well as, relieving teething pain and toughening gums, these Dino’s are a great source of calcium and the soft marrow inside is a potent source of protein and emollients for GOOD health and Shiny Coats.

Wonder Nuggets | BAM!tastic!

This morning I came across the “word” BAM!tastic on a blog about Tumeric (which is good for your dog) and thought, this “word” is perfect for the Mighty, Bite-Size Wonder Nuggets.

Ideal for training or for the dog/dog parent who prefers a softer treat, these dainty tid-bits have base ingredients of Rolled Oats, Vegetable Glycerin and Barley Flour, with the option of choosing Beef + Apples or Unsalted Peanut Butter + Cane Molasses.  Locally MADE and SOURCED in Boston, Massachusetts, by the Good Folks at Polka Dog Bakery, not only are these treats easy on the stomach, but they are also easy on the nose. Smelling BAM!tastic, if you are tempted, please…feel free to try the Peanut Butter Wonder Nuggets; they taste like Ginger Snaps!

Tendons | Nom-Nom-Nom!

Looking for a chew that doesn’t stink? Screen Shot 2014-02-28 at 11.08.25 AM

Well then, you are in LUCK! Available in Beef, Bison, Lamb and even Kangaroo, Tendons are a perfect substitute for the FUNKY smelling Bull Pizzle.

Although these high in Protein, low in fat chews are slow roasted to prolong nutrients and strengthen gnawing toughness, they are easily digestible (stomach safe). Commonly derived from the achilles tendon, these chews vary in different shapes and sizes (Hector Bite, Wishbone, Lamb Twizzler, Flossies etc.).  Given the opportunity to chew from different edges and angles, these fibrous chews are known to be great teeth pickers, scraping away built-up plaque, preventing bad oral bacteria (bad breath).

Quick Tip: looking for this chew to last a bit longer, try a thick tendon, like the Hector Bite. Looking for more teeth picking action? Get a Flossie or Spiral Tendon.  Although these tendons are Skinnier and unlikely to last as long, your dog will put in some teeth cleaning work by trying to gnaw at this chew from it’s many different twist and curves.

A wonderful chew for dogs of all ages and sizes, check out a savory Bully Tendon at thaMUNCHbox.com! Hopefully soon, we will have more tendons to drool for.

RAWESOME BONES!

What do we, at tha MUNCHbox, think about Raw Bones?

Well, the title of this post should clearly let you know.  But just in case you didn’t catch on, we think Raw Bones are…RAWESOME!

Not just providing more essential nutrient and minerals than processed bones, Raw Bones are also a smart substitute for struggling with your dog to brush their teeth.  Assisting with stimulating saliva enzymes, preventing plaque buildup and gum disease (especially in the upper back molars), and removing trapped food particles from in between teeth, a Raw Bone sure does make a RAWESOME after dinner treat.

Although Raw Bones are less prone to splinter, It is still wise to NOTE that not all dogs can have bones in general. Meant to be gnawed/chewed on, we do not recommend bones to dogs who prefer to chomp a bone into smaller chunks to swallow; this is why we think it is important to know what type of chewer your dog is.  Nevertheless, it’s best to always be in the surrounding area when you give your dog a bone, to monitor the intake.

Available in different shapes and sizes, with meatier being better than just bare, be sure to choose the right size bone for you dog.  As an example, when giving a raw bone to a small dog, be mindful that they have delicate teeth and jaws, so a big raw knuckle bone is probaley not best for them, but for a pit bull, this will definitley work.

Whether you give your RAWESOME bone frozen (nice summer treat to work at) or thawed out, remember, moderation is key.  Allowing your dog to chew/gnaw on a Raw Bone for an hour may prove to be too much for them, especially if they are known to have a sensitive stomach. If your dog is new to Raw Bones, Start with smaller time intervals, say 10-15 minutes and if your dog doesn’t experience an upset stomach, slowly increase the chew/gnaw time.  Likewise, a Raw Bone a day may be too much, but one every Friday, might be just right.
